WEEK 16: Going Strong!

Pictures:   I am shocked that Tanner picked up this little creature because he was not a fan of the creepy crawlies and would not even kill a small spider before he left.  He is going to be a new man after this experience!  They must have gone on a hike for a zone activity today and we get a shot at the view.  And, of course, it's not complete without a picture of a cute little kiddo!

Missionary work is sweet! Now don't get me wrong, it's not easy. At all!  However, one thing I have learned is when you work hard, you are much happier. For those of you going on a mission, don't just try to meet the mission standard on the hours and so forth, but exceed it. Set your goal for higher, and then get higher than your goal. Too many missionaries set a goal with the mindseat of, if I come close then its okay. It's not. When you meet your goal it's okay. When you exceed your goal then you're a champ! And you will be happy. Exhausted but happy.  Also many missionaries get lazy and tired when they are getting ready to go home. But be like my companion I have now. Elder Dhlamini, from South Africa, he is a champ. He has only one more transfer after this and he works like he is right out of the MTC. Thats how it should be. Non-stop hard work for two years and when you go home then you rest. You will look back with a smile knowing you did your best and gave your all. But yeah for me I love life!  We have found more people to teach so life goes on! Mission is sweet! Love you all!

Extra Info Inserted by Mom:

There is a very touching article about a young man from Ghana who lives within Tanner's mission in this months Ensign.  I sent it to Tanner but he had already read it and his trainer had met the young man.  I'm attaching if any of you would like to read it.  We truly are so very blessed and I don't think we even understand how much!

He told his little sister his favorite food is the protein shakes that he makes.  He also loves groundnut paste which is peanut butter without sugar.  At first he said he hated it because it is very bitter but he has adjusted and he thinks now our peanut butter would make him sick with all the sugar.

He said his new companion told him he wants Tanner to push him so hard he collapses!  He wants to end his mission full speed and then some!  He said he is quiet and doesn't like starting conversations and only gives one word answers (parents of teenage boys can so relate to this!!  Tanner actually stopped giving me the one word answers and just moved to giving me a thumbs up so I am enjoying this!). so Tanner ran out of questions to ask him one day and stopped talking and his companion chastised him for not talking!  He said he apologized and explained it's hard thinking of so many questions and invited him to help him come up with more questions and he has and he has gotten to know him much better.  Tanner says "We are great friends!  So yeah I love him!  I'm very happy."   Happy missionary....happy mom!!  Life is good!

By the way, Tanner would really enjoy getting emails from any of you!  I think he has felt a bit forgotten.
